Austin Halvorson confidently led CRL Shesa Cool Coosa through the aged mares class to win his first world championship. The Journal caught up with Austin waiting to have his championship photo taken to ask him about his winning run.
Q. Tell me about CRL Shesa Cool Coosa, Austin.
She’s a great horse, and she’s really well-minded, and she’s just the best horse out there. And I think she was the best-acting one out there, too, I believe.
Q. What do you call her at home?
“J-Lo” because her butt is big.
Q. What do you like about her?
I like her because she is just a great horse and she’s not bad-minded. She’ll always do what you want, and sometimes she helps me.
Q. How long have you been showing her?
This is my first year, but it’s been the best year that I’ve showed because I ended up with a world championship.
Austin Halvorson won his first world championship title showing his father's mare CRL Shesa Cool Coosa.
Q. This is your third Ford Youth World but your first world championship. How does it feel?
Feels really good.
Q. How did you find J-Lo?
She was born on our ranch. We had her, and she won the world a few times, and I asked my dad if I could show her this year, and he said sure. So I got to show her.
Q. Anyone you want to thank?
My mom and my dad.
BETCHA DIDN’T KNOW Austin is the son of Team Wrangler member and AQHA Pro Horseman Wayne Halvorson, who took J-Lo to world championships in 2006 and 2007 in halter.
