With back-to-back runs in tie-down roping and heading and two horses in the finals, Ryan Schroeder had a busy night on August 3. Ryan, the son of AQHA Professional Horseman Robbie Schroeder, hails from Gainesville, Texas. The young roper made two victory laps tonight, as his horse, Cant Skippa Blaze, carried him to youth world championships in tie-down roping and dally team roping – heading. The Journal caught up with Ryan after the dally team roping – heeling finals, where he also qualified two horses. To read about Ryan's tie-down championship, click here.
Q: Tell me about your run.
It was really good. My horse ran up in there really good in the second round. I drew a running steer the first round and it wasn’t nearly as good as I wanted it to be, but in the second round, he ran up in there and did as good as I wanted him to do.
Q: Which roping event does your horse do best in?
I don’t know (he shakes his head). It’s close, between the heading and the calf roping. It’s really close.
Q: You’ve competed at both Fort Worth and Oklahoma City. Which one do you like best?
I like Oklahoma City a lot. It’s a lot cooler up here.

Ryan Schroeder and Cant Skippa Blaza won two Youth World
championships in the roping finals on August 3.
Q: Your dad helps you a lot. Do you have any other trainers that help you?
I go to Gary Wells some and Shawn Darnell helps me some. Just a lot of close people that have helped me all my life.
Q: Who heeled for you tonight?
Shawn Darnell.
