YEARLING MARES

TRENT ROBINSON CARRIES ON A FAMILY TRADITION.

BY CHRISTINE HAMILTON, FIELD EDITOR

When Ronald Trent Robinson of Scroggins, Texas, and his yearling mare, Emagination, won the first halter world championship of the 2008 Ford AQHYA World Championship Show, he was just carrying on a family tradition.

It was Trent’s second world championship – he won the 2005 2-year-old mares youth world championship with Call Me Telusive. And his mother, Cathy Lawrence Robinson, and grandfather, Billy Rex Lawrence, have several halter world championships and reserves between them, including Cathy’s win with Curves in the 2001 amateur 3-year-old mares, and Billy Rex’s win with Call Me Phenomenal in the 1999 amateur weanling stallions.

And that’s what makes this win with Emagination special for Trent: “She’s from my mom, we raised her,” he said.

“I raised (Emagination’s) dam, (Call Me The First),” Cathy explained. “She was a daughter of a mare that daddy had by Call Me Phenomenal, who we used to own.

“I sold (Call Me Phenomenal) a couple of years ago, and I kept (Call Me The First),” she continued. “She’s a little N/N mare. We used to own Mr Elusive, and I bred her to ‘Mr E.’

Trent Robinson, 14, of Scroggins, Texas, and Emagination won the 2008 youth world championship in yearling mares.

“So this win is a special thing - with the stallions that we had and these mares. It’s just real special.”

Their close friends and fellow halter showmen, Greg and Dr. Gigi Davis of Savannah, Tennessee, were on hand for the win – they made a special trip to cheer Trent on.

According to Trent, the filly is easy to show. “All I do is guide her,” he said. “She likes to be rubbed on her nose.”

His plans are to “keep showing horses.” He’ll be back again with Emagination for the 2009 Ford Youth World.

“He’s carrying on a family tradition,” Cathy said.
