Adequan Los Alamitos Derby Challenge

Scoops Dynasty, a homebred son of champion Fdd Dynasty owned by Edward and Von Zae McNeils, sprinted to a one-length victory in Sunday's $41,514 Adequan Los Alamitos Derby Challenge for 3-year-olds.

Ridden by Armando Cervantes for trainer Monty Arrossa, Scoops Dynasty covered 400 yards in :19.861. The Idaho-bred gelding earned $19,512 and a berth in the October 22 Adequan Derby Challenge Championship (G3) at Horseshoe Indianapolis.

The McNelises’ My Game Plan crossed the wire second but was disqualified for breaking inward and bumping several inside rivals.

Scoops Dynasty has won all three of his outs this year, including the February 19, 400-yard Los Alamitos Winter Derby (G1). The gelding is out of Bye Sweet Girl, an unplaced daughter of Dashin Bye.

“We are so fortunate to have him,” Edward McNelis said of Scoops Dynasty. “We have his dam, and of course we also have (My Game Plan). They were raised together.

"We have a small operation, but the FDD Dynasty cross on that mare really worked," he added. "It’s been a real key to our success.”

Campaigned in two states, including New Mexico, Scoops Dynasty has won four of eight races and has earned $152,940, of which $112,952 has been banked from three outs this year.

CM Blue By You was placed second after the disqualification of My Game Plan from second to seventh. Unavailable, Oughta See Her Fly,  Wave Runner, Thryve, My Game Plan, Wave Burner, and Mason Jar completed the official order of finish.
