Ariatt, a homebred son of champion Tempting Dash owned by La Feliz Montana Ranch, topped the qualifiers from the first of two days of All American Futurity (G1) trials at Albuquerque Downs.

Racing in the fifth of 14 trials on Friday, Ariatt defeated third-fastest qualifier Highly Regarded V by one length while going 440 yards in :20.974. Luis Martinez rode the gelding for trainer Xavier Rodriguez.

Ariatt's clocking was accomplished with the aid of a reported 10-mph tail wind. The gelding was bred in New Mexico, and he is out of Lethal Lil, a stakes-winning daughter of Corona Cartel and the runner-up in the 2018 Rainbow Futurity (G1) at Ruidoso Downs. His second dam, the Dean Miracle mare Lethal Delight, won the '09 Shue Fly Stakes (RG1) at Sunland Park.

Ariatt was winning for the second time in four races and increasing his earnings to $14,780.

Other prominent qualifiers from Friday include Triple One Ranch's Hezgothelook Z, who kept his All American Triple Crown hopes alive. Ridden by Bryan Candanosa for trainer Toby Keeton and racing against a reported 8-mph head wind, Hezgothelook Z won the third heat by one length in :21.108 to set the second-fastest qualifying time from the first day of trials.

Hezgothelook Z was bred in Oklahoma by Tommy Dinwiddie. Raced in two stakes, including Texas, the bay gelding has earned $858,300 from six outs, and his five wins include the first two legs of the All American Triple Crown, the June 9, 350-yard Ruidoso Futurity (G1), and the July 14, 400-yard Rainbow Futurity (G1).
