The American Quarter Horse Foundation and American Quarter Horse Association hosted the 2022 American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame Induction & Reunion Celebration September 16 and 17 in Amarillo to honor industry legends. Guests from around the world descended upon Amarillo for a weekend full of fun and fellowship in honor of the Hall of Fame Class of 2022. It was the event’s second year, and new events were added to further celebrate the inductees and their inspiring stories including a fireside chat with inductee and audience participation. Ticket sales for the weekend increased from the inaugural year and two live auction items raised $50,000 for the Foundation.

Induction into the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame is the highest industry honor that can be bestowed upon a human or equine. Those chosen for induction are recognized for their lifetime of accomplishments and service. These videos were played during the Saturday evening Hall of Fame Induction Banquet, a semi-formal event that closes out the Induction & Reunion Celebration weekend.

This year, a special segment was added to the Hall of Fame Induction & Reunion Celebration, the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame Fireside Chat. This event allowed inductees and their representatives to share more about their stories and the road that led them into the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame. The audience had an opportunity to ask questions and dive into the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame inductees’ history in real time.

Hall of Fame Classes of 2022
Six horses and seven AQHA members were inducted into the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2022.
The horses were Big Step, a 1956 sorrel stallion; Corona Cartel, a 1994 bay stallion; Easter King, a 1951 sorrel stallion; Impressive, a 1969 sorrel stallion; Sun Frost, a 1979 palomino stallion; and Topsail Whiz, a 1987 chestnut stallion.
The individuals were AQHA Director Emeritus John Andreini of San Mateo, California; James V. A. Carter of Clovis, California; Mary Hopkins of Vicksburg, Mississippi, who was an AQHA judge, trainer and advocate for youth and Equestrians With Disabilities riders; AQHA Past President Sandra Arledge of Encinitas, California; trainer and judge Walter T. Hughes and American Quarter Horse Foundation advocate Nancy of Damascus, Maryland; and trainer Jerry Wells of Sulphur, Oklahoma.
