Victor Ortiz’s Pitchforks Panther, a stakes-placed son of Dominyun and the fastest qualifier, heads a field of 10 Colorado-bred 2-year-olds entered back in Saturday’s 330-yard, $75,000 Cherry Creek Futurity (R) at Arapahoe Park.

Pitchforks Panther made his local debut with a neck victory as the 9-5 favorite in the third of four Cherry Creek Futurity trials on June 28. The gelding has earned $12,709 from three starts, and his record includes a second-place finish in the 300-yard, $51,448 Golden Spike Futurity at Weber Downs in Ogden, Utah, on April 27.

Pitchforks Panther drew Post 10 and will be ridden by Carlos Guillen Chacon.

Also on Saturday, Hugo Barron-Sierra’s Jess Un Sies Mas is one of 10 Colorado-bred sophomores entered back in Saturday’s 350-yard, $60,000 Lucille Rowe Derby (R).

The fastest qualifier from four trials on June 28, Jess Un Sies Mas has won his last three starts, including the 350-yard, $75,000 Rocky Mountain Derby on June 15. The homebred Apollitical Jess gelding has won four of nine starts and has banked $38,967.

Jess Un Sies Mas drew Post 7 and will be ridden by Alfredo Triana Jr.
