Ed Allred's London Toby earned his first open Grade 1 stakes victory in Sunday's 400-yard, $132,692 Brad McKinzie Los Alamitos Winter Championship (G1) at Los Alamitos Racecourse.

Prepped by Scott Willoughby and ridden by Gabriel Lara, London Toby defeated Marcelo by a neck in :19.770. The homebred 6-year-old Favorite Cartel gelding recorded a 90 speed index and the $56,868 winner's share of the purse from his third lifetime stakes win.

London Toby was bred in California, and he was the third-fastest qualifier from two trials run on January 28. The sorrel gelding is out of London Laura, a winning homebred 11-year-old daughter of the First Down Dash stallion Walk Thru Fire.

London Toby has won six of 16 races -- including the 2022 First Down Dash Handicap (G3) and last year's Spencer L. Childers Memorial Championship (RG1) -- and he has banked $195,056. His victory on Sunday earned him a berth in this year's Champion of Champions.

Scoops Dynasty finished third, a half of a length behind London Toby. Hes Chickless, Future Version, fastest qualifier Jeriko, Mahomes Magic, Mr Racy Perry, and Take A Swig Of This completed the order of finish.
