A brown horse and a bay horse have more in common than you might think.

Never Sudden is a 2013 bay gelding by RL Best Of Sudden and out of Nuthermousenthehouse.

Best N The House is a 2013 brown gelding by RL Best Of Sudden and out of Nuthermousenthehouse.

Both horses are at the 2019 Built Ford Tough AQHYA World Championship Show.

Both horses were bred by Voge Quarter Horses of Whitesboro, Texas,

“It was a double ovulation, so they’re flushmates, we call it,” says Julie Voge. “They both sold in the (National Snaffle Bit Association) yearling sale.”

Through a few changes of hands, the now 6-year-old flushmates wound up in the same spot – Oklahoma City.Brad and Terri Layer run CrossRidge Ranch in Waynesboro, Georgia, with their daughter, Austin. (Journal photo)

Best N The House is owned by Austin Layer of Waynesboro, Georgia, who showed him in Level 3 14-18 horsemanship.

Austin and “House” have been partners for about a year, the 16-year-old says.

“James King helped us find him,” Austin says, and it was a match from first sight.

“He has a big personality,” she says. “He’s a comedian.”

Nya Kearns of Grayslake, Illinois, showed Never Sudden to the world championship in 14-18 horsemanship and the reserve world championship in western riding.

“He’s very sweet,” Nya says of Never Sudden. “He really wants to be a pet.”

Nya has been riding the horse less than two years.

“Originally my dad, (AQHA Professional Horseman Brad Kearns), bought him as a project,” Nya says. “He didn’t buy him for me. I started riding him, and he just wants to try to find the right answer.”

Never Sudden came with the barn name “Bo,” but there was already a “Bobo” in the barn, so Bo earned a middle name – “Bo Ferdinand.” That quickly became the pet name “Bo Ferd.”

“He’s a nice boy,” Nya says.

Nuthermousenthehouse is a 2002 dun mare by Certain Potential and out of The Mouse Is Talkin by Sweet Talkin Chip. She was bred by Tim and Lou Petty of Ocala, Florida. Her full sister, the 2006 mare Certain Mouseketeer, is a top-producing broodmare for the University of Florida.

Voge Quarter Horses stands a 3-year-old stallion, Heart Stoppin, who is a grandson of Nuthermousenthehouse.

“Nuthermousenthehouse has been a great broodmare for us,” Julie says. “My husband went to Florida and found her. She had already had some success (in the show pen).”
