Consistent with the American Quarter Horse Association’s practice since 2016, all horses entering the races held during the Bank of America Challenge Championships, which are October 26 at The Downs Racetrack and Casino in Albuquerque, New Mexico, will be required to submit a hair test as a condition of entry.

The hair testing for the Bank of America Challenge Championship, Adequan® Derby Challenge Championship, John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship, ARC Distaff Challenge Championships and Cox Ranch Distance Challenge Championship will be done on the premises at The Downs. All horses are required to be on the grounds no later than October 12, and hair samples will be taken on or before the morning of October 14.

Once the sample has been pulled, the horse is required to stay on the premises until the running of the Challenge Championship race in which they are entered. A horse that receives a positive finding to the hair test will not be allowed to enter, as described in Section 3 of the Bank of America Challenge Championship rules, regulations and conditions.

In addition, horses must be made available for pre-race inspections and out-of-competition testing at any time during the five days prior to the Challenge Championships races.

Horses interested only in competing in one of the five undercard races, including the Downs Casino Quarter Horse Stakes, Lobo Quarter Horse Derby, Albuquerque Juvenile, Pitre GMC Distaff and Sandia Distance Stakes, must be on the grounds of The Downs at Albuquerque on or before October 19 to submit an out-of-competition hair sample. All results will be obtained before the races are contested, and any entrant with a positive finding will be scratched.
