Following is a recap of all official American Quarter Horse stakes for the week of December 1-4. For recaps of most graded stakes, Bank of America Racing Challenge stakes and trials, and most stakes with purses of $100,000 or more, see the individual recaps in the Racing News section. This page will be updated throughout the week.

Turf Paradise
Roberto Baeza's La Panama West on Thursday recorded the fastest qualifying time to the December 22, $60,288 Arizona QRA Turf Paradise Open Derby for 3-year-olds.

Racing in the last of three trials, La Panama West defeated second fastest qualifier B The One by a half of a length while going 400 yards in :19.693. Martin Osuna rode the homebred daughter of the Walk Thru Fire stallion Panama Wes for trainer Candelario Villamar.

La Panama West was bred in Arizona, and she was coming off of a seventh-place finish in the November 12 Desert Classic Derby (R) at this track. Raced exclusively in Arizona, the bay filly has won four of eight starts and has earned $32,399, of which $32,249 has been pocketed from seven outs this season.
