Sassalitical, a daughter of world champion Apollitical Jess owned by Tyler and Naia Graham of Elgin, Texas, made her 4-year-old season debut with an upset victory in Saturday's 350-yard, $51,840 Decketta Stakes (G2) for fillies and mares at Remington Park.
Sent to post at odds of 13-1 and aided by a reported 16-mph tail wind, Sassalitical defeated Fabulous Rachel by a neck in :17.322. Jorge Torres rode the brown mare for trainer Clint Crawford.
Sassalitical was bred in Utah by Speed LLC, and she was making her first start since October 16, when she ran second, a neck behind winner One Kool Dreamer, in the 350-yard, $24,000 Miss Ellen Stakes for distaffers at Will Rogers Downs. Raced in four states, including New Mexico and Iowa, the mare has won four of 14 starts -- including three of five at Remington Park -- and the $29,730 winner's share of the purse from her first lifetime stakes win increased her bankroll to $208,583.
Sassalitical's resume includes a second-place finish in the 2021 Valley Junction Futurity (G3) at Prairie Meadows. She also was a finalist in that season's Grade 1, 350-yard Heritage Place Futurity at Remington Park.
Sheza Freighttrain T, Pops First Lady, Prized Dimon, Jess Give Mea Reason, Hally, JND Wagon, Fox News, and Sweet Dasha Fire completed the order of finish.
