Handicappers take center stage once again on Sunday when Ruidoso Downs Race Track presents the second “Dr Pepper Handicapping Challenge” of the season.

First post is 1 p.m. with free parking and general admission.

“We had a tremendous response to the first handicapping contest, so we’re going to have another event using the same rules,” Ruidoso Downs’ president and general manager Jeff True said. “The winner will receive a $500 cash voucher, so there remains a strong incentive to pick the right horses and win.”

The contest consists of playing four races on the Ruidoso Downs card, the sixth through the ninth races, along with a race from Saratoga Race Course.

Players enter the contest by purchasing a $50 betting (cost $60). That is their money to bet on the races involved in the contest. The minimum wager per race is $10, but there is no maximum bet. The player who accumulates the most money with their betting card in the five races wins the $500 betting voucher first-place prize and five cases of Dr Pepper. The top five finishers win betting vouchers and Dr Pepper.
