Charlies Fury is the fastest qualifier to the June 1, $367,750 Heritage Place Derby (G2).

Ridden by Agustin Silva in the first of seven 400 yard trials at Remington Park on Sunday, Charlies Fury defeated non-qualifier America Hussle by a clear two lengths in :19.319 while aided by a reported 7-mph tail wind. Michelle Hurdle prepped the homebred Furyofthewind gelding for owners Tom and Kathleen McNally of Guthrie, Oklahoma.

Charlies Fury has won three of eight races and has banked $99,800. The sorrel gelding was a finalist in last year's Black Gold 350 Championship Futurity (RG3) at Will Rogers Downs.

Second-fastest qualifier Apollitical Pence, a gelded son of world champion Apollitical Jess trained by Trey Wood for owner Dunn Ranch, won the third heat by a half of a length from third-fastest qualifier Viva Le Don in :19.402. Ricky Ramirez rode the homebred gelding, who was scoring his fifth win in 12 outs and increasing his bankroll to $314,052.

Apollitical Pence was coming off of a second-place finish in the March 31, 400-yard El Primero del Ano Derby (G3) at Los Alamitos Racecourse. He also was a finalist in last year's Grade 1 Los Alamitos Two-Million and Golden State Million futurities.
