Acool Affection’s win in amateur yearling geldings, which resulted in him taking the amateur halter champion of champions trophy, was years in the making. And the 2019 AQHA Central Level 1 Championships was only his second show.

Debbie Byars Hussey of Mooreville, Mississippi, is proud of the fact that “Buddy’s” grandsire, The Panda Spirit, and great-grandsire, The Gambling Spirit (an own son of Impressive), were owned by her father, Joe Byars.

“Buddy is an Impressive-bred horse,” Debbie says. “My daughter and I showed his mom for several years. She was a two-time Palomino-bred champion. So Buddy is a fourth-generation horse for us. A really good friend, Greg Gilpin, has helped us. Greg raised Buddy’s mama and my dad had Buddy’s grandsire. Greg has helped us by taking the mare and getting her bred to produce this baby.”

Acool Affection is a 2018 palomino gelding by Hes A Cool Lover and out of Spirited Affection by The Panda Spirit.

“We’re going to keep showing Buddy and hope to have him back at Youth World with Hanna this August,” Debbie said. “We keep him at home, and I work him myself. We’ve been working with his hair, getting him eating right, keeping him healthy.”
