Apollitical Bet, a homebred son of champion Apollitical Blood racing for Clayton and Kaye Russell, heads a group of 24 2-year-olds entered in Saturday's John Deere Los Alamitos Juvenile Challenge trials at Los Alamitos Racecourse.
Three 350-yard heats will be contested. The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the August 10 John Deere Los Alamitos Juvenile Challenge final.
Apollitical Bet will be making his first start since May 26, when the California-bred gelding scored a nose victory in a 350-yard Ed Burke Million Futurity (G1) trial. Monty Arrossa trains Apollitical Bet, whose 350-yard time of :17.879 in his Ed Burke trial was just more than 4/100ths of a second from tying Jess Send Kevin for the 10th-fastest qualifying time.
Apollitical Bet drew post 8 and will be ridden by Armando Cervantes in the last of three trials.
Other prominent juveniles entered in Saturday's trials include Robert Adair Kindergarten Futurity (G2) qualifiers Set The Edge and Zoomin On Home, both of whom are trained by Heath Taylor for owner Keith W. Nellesen.
