Parsons Ranch’s Kevins Wise Corona broke sharply from post 8 and sped to a wire-to-wire victory in Saturday's 350-yard, $40,000 Kaweah Bar Stakes (G3) at Los Alamitos Racecourse.
Prepped by Paul Jones, Kevins Wise Corona stopped the timer in :17.351 -- the fastest time at the distance thus far at the meet -- and his winning margin was a half of a length from Stanley Cartel. Jesus Ayala rode the homebred 4-year-old son of champion KVN Corona.
"It was a beautiful race," said Jones, who was earning his 353rd Quarter Horse stakes win at Los Alamitos. "He really ran great tonight. He got out of the gate fast and clean and whenever he does that, he can really run.
"It was definitely good to see Jesus Ayala tonight," the trainer added. "He's been riding in Oklahoma, and it was nice to have him back here tonight. We had an opportunity to have him ride our horse, and we were really happy with that."
Kevins Wise Corona was bred in California by Jay and Char Parsons. The stallion is out of Another Wise Lady, a winning and multiple stakes placed First Down Dash mare. Raced exclusively at Los Alamitos, Kevins Wise Corona has won seven of his 21 races, and the $22,000 winner's share of the purse from his first stakes score brought his career bankroll to $212,439.
Jess Being A Friend finished third and was followed by Edberg Verde, Cattail Cove, SM Jess Corona, Sneaky Kidd, Price Fixer, Winners Share and RS Shere Khan.
