Los Alamitos will not race March 22-24 for track maintenance.

Los Alamitos Race Course will not race on Friday, March 22, through Sunday, March 24, to conduct moderate rehabilitation of the track surface.

The track will remain open for morning training at the regularly scheduled hours with the rehabilitation work beginning after the end of training. Saturday’s gate works will be held at the usual starting time of 10 a.m.  

Live racing at Los Alamitos Race Course will resume on Friday, March 29 to kick off a stakes-filled weekend of racing. The Friday program will be headed by the Moonist Handicap for older horses at 400 yards and a Pick 6 Carryover of $9,842. The Moonist was originally scheduled for Sunday, March 24.  This racing weekend will also include the Grade 3, $210,000 La Primera Del Ano Derby on Saturday, March 30 and the Grade 3, $211,000 El Primero Del Ano Derby on Sunday, March 31. 

Los Alamitos will be open for both day and night simulcasting on March 22nd through 24th. The daytime Thoroughbred simulcasting schedule will feature the Louisiana Derby on Saturday afternoon and Sunland Park Derby on Sunday afternoon, two key preps for the 145th Kentucky Derby. Racing from Golden Gate, Aqueduct, Gulfstream Park and more will be part of the daytime simulcast schedule. On Friday and Saturday night, Los Alamitos will be open for simulcasting of Quarter Horse racing from Remington Park, Thoroughbred racing from Australia and harness racing from Cal Expo in Sacramento. In addition, Los Alamitos will offer a full simulcast card of Thoroughbred racing from Chukyo Racecourse in Nagoya, Japan on Saturday evening. 

Friday night’s simulcast action will be highlighted by Australian superstar Winx going after her 32nd win in a row when she heads the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse in Sydney, Australia.

On Saturday night, Japan’s top older horses will compete in the Group 1 Takamatsunomiya Kinen in Chukyo.
