Nine 3-year-old fillies, headed by fastest qualifier Dreams Divine, have been entered in Saturday's 400-yard, $403,500 Los Alamitos Oaks at Los Alamitos Race Course.

Trained by Mike Robbins for owner Reliance Ranches, Dreams Divine has won both of her starts this season, including the first of three Los Alamitos Oaks trials on March 7. She was lightly raced as a 2-year-old, but she has won five of seven starts and has earned $238,739, and she ended her juvenile campaign with a second-place finish in the Grade 1, 350-yard Ed Burke Memorial Futurity on June 23.

“We were very pleased with her,” Robbins said of the Oklahoma-bred daughter of world champion Apollitical Jess. “She’s always been very consistent.

"She got beat a couple of times (in 2019) but she had a little problem last year," the trainer added. "We worked on her and has come back super. She’s a super gate horse and gives you 100 percent.”

Dreams Divine drew post 8 and will be ridden by Oscar Peinado. The filly's eight opponents include second-fastest qualifier Southern Wagon, a homebred PYC Paint Your Wagon filly trained by Monty Arrossa for owner Dunn Ranch. Raced in California and New Mexico, Southern Wagon has won four of 10 outs and has banked $80,756.

Southern Wagon drew post 4 and will be ridden by Jesus Rios Ayala.

“We left with the field (in the trials) but the number eight bumped us a little bit,” said Ayala of Southern Wagon. “She kept going and the filly loved the distance.

"I feel she still has a lot more in her," Ayala added. "She needed this race. The morning that she worked (on February 11) she got tired a little bit. I think she’ll be a lot better in the final.”

Only nine fillies were entered back in the Los Alamitos Oaks, which will be this season's richest race for fillies and mares. Cartel Jess Rockin, the fourth-fastest qualifier, was retired from racing after her trial.
