Fastest qualifier Streaks Of Power, a homebred daughter of the Concord Point (TB) stallion Power Jam racing for Ken O'Brien, is one of 10 3-year-old fillies entered back in Saturday's 400-yard, $461,500 Los Alamitos Oaks (G1) at Los Alamitos Racecourse.
Streaks Of Power made her season debut and broke her maiden with a three-quarter length victory in the first of four Los Alamitos Oaks trials on March 4. The Louisiana-bred filly is trained by Monty Arrossa.
Streaks Of Power drew post 8 and will be ridden by Armando Cervantes.
O'Brien and Arrossa will also be represented by fourth-fastest qualifier Candys Special Power, a Louisiana-bred daughter of Power Jam he acquired from breeder PV Quarter Horse Farms. Candys Special Power has won two of three races and has earned $72,126, and she ran second in last year's Black Gold Fillies Futurity (R) at Will Rogers Downs in Claremore, Oklahoma.
“She’s the best 3-year-old filly that I’ve seen in my life; I’ve always loved her,” O’Brien said of Candys Special Power. “I like the way she is put together. She’s got low hocks to the ground, long hips, and a longer body like the Gentry family (of mares) has, which I think is the best family in the business.
"They’ve always been my favorite," he added. "My wife, Nina, her favorite horse is Streaks Of Power. We’ve been very blessed and fortunate to have (them).”
Candys Special Power will be ridden by Eduardo Nicasio from post 2.
This year's Los Alamitos Oaks will offer a stakes-record purse. The complete lineup, in post position order including jockey assignments:
