A field of 10 2-year-olds, led by Grade 1 winner American Dreamin and fastest qualifier Brown Coffeee, is entered back in California's richest horse race, Sunday's 400-yard, $1,832,950 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity (G1) at Los Alamitos Racecourse.
Made the 3-1 second choice by track morning-line maker Ed Burgart, American Dreamin has earned $452,941 from six races in California and New Mexico, and his four wins include a half-length victory as the fastest qualifier in the October 27, $1.074-million Golden State Million Futurity (G1), one of his four wins in as many outs at Los Alamitos and three wins in four starts at the 400-yard distance. Monty Arrossa trains the homebred Apollitical Jess filly for owner Dunn Ranch.
American Dreamin drew post 10 and will be ridden by Armando Cervantes.
Brown Coffeee races for Monty and Katsy Cluck and Ross Roark, and the gelded son of Good Reason SA is one of two finalists from the barn of trainer Heath Taylor. Brown Coffeee is coming off of a 1 3/4-length win in the ninth of 12 "Deuce" trials on November 24. He has won two of his three races at Los Alamitos, including a 300-yard maiden-special-weight dash on September 14.
"He's had the eye of the tiger," said Taylor after Brown Coffeee's trial victory. "I thought he was awesome in his maiden win here. He had some problems in his Golden State Million trial.
"I really like those horses (by Good Reason SA)," the trainer added. "We bought a full brother and a half-brother to this horse at the (2024) Ruidoso Sale because we really like this horse quite a bit."
Brown Coffeee drew post 9 and will be ridden by Jose Nicasio.
