Chendo, a gelded son of RC Me Leaving You racing for Carlos Gabriel Castro and the fastest qualifier, drew post 8 for Saturday's 300-yard, $339,046 Louisiana Downs Futurity (G3) at Louisiana Downs.

Chendo made his career debut with a one-length victory in the seventh of 10 trials on March 2. The sorrel gelding was purchased by Castro for $5,500 at last year's Texas QHA Yearling Sale.

Chendo will be ridden by Eleazar Hernandez for trainer Santiago Villaseca.

"Santiago and I attended the TQHA Yearling Sale, and we both liked Chendo when he walked into the ring," said Castro. "We were fortunate to get him for just $5,500, and watching him win his (February 8) schooling race and get the fastest qualifying time was pretty exciting for us."

Jessica Mendez's Hock Tree Special, the second-fastest qualifier, won his trial by a half of a length. Daniel Luna trains the Kiss My Hocks gelding and $55,000 purchase from the TQHA Yearling Sale.

Hock Tree Special drew post 3 and will be ridden by Ubaldo Luna.
