A field of 10 New Mexico-bred 2-year-old Quarter Horses, topped by morning-line favorite Colby James and fastest qualifier Big Edge (pictured), has been entered back in Saturday’s 350-yard, $404,357 Mountain Top Futurity (RG3) at Ruidoso Downs.

Colby James is a sorrel son of Jesse James Jr campaigned by Rex Wells. A $15,000 yearling purchase at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Sale, the gelding has earned $78,567 from three races, and his resume includes a second-place finish, a neck behind winner Honky Tonk Daddy, in the 300-yard, $393,000 New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) at Sunland Park on May 5.

Colby James drew Post 10 and will be ridden by Alan Hernandez for trainer Rudy Valles.

Big Edge made his debut with a dominating 3 1/4-length victory in the fifth of 13 Mountain Top Futurity trials on May 31. The Big Daddy Cartel gelding was purchased by his owner, Adam B. Smith, for $40,000 at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Sale.

Big Edge drew Post 8 and will be ridden by Ricky Ramirez for trainer Trey Wood.

Other contenders include Cavenaugh Quarter Horses LLC’s Dark Moon, an undefeated daughter of champion First Moonflash and a $72,000 yearling purchase. Dark Moon has earned $13,240 from two outs, and the filly made her debut with a three-quarter length victory in a 250-yard maiden-special-weight dash at Remington Park on March 23.

Dark Moon drew Post 2 and will be ridden by Juan Pulido for trainer Clint Crawford.

This year's Mountain Top Futurity will offer a stakes-record purse. The complete lineup, in post position order including jockey assignments and morning-line odds:

Absolutely Flashing (Adrian Ramos), 8-1
Dark Moon (Juan Pulido), 6-1
Princess Katelyn (Esgar Ramirez), 15-1
Last Fight (Manuel Gutierrez), 20-1
