Making his official career debut, Broadbent on Saturday set the fastest qualifying time to the April 5, $348,900 New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2).

Prepped by Eric Valenzuela for owner Tungsten Racing Partnership, Broadbent won the fourth of 10 trials by 1 1/4 lengths while covering 300 yards in :14.998. Luis Flores-Garcia rode the gelded son of the Mr Jess Perry stallion Eye Am King.

Broadbent's clocking was aided by a reported 24-mph tail wind. The gelding was bred by Mac and Janis Murray's MJ Farms at Veguita, New Mexico, and he was an $88,000 purchase at last year's Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale.

Broadbent is out of Bridgette Bordeaux, a homebred winning and graded stakes placed daughter of the Bugs Alive In 75 stallion Blushing Bug.
