The American Quarter Horse Association is excited to welcome attendees to the 2019 Bank of America Youth Excellence Seminar July 9-11 in Amarillo. If you haven’t had a chance, check out the tentative YES schedule.

Before you start packing your bags, here are just a few things to remember:

  1. Make sure you have reserved your room at one of the host hotels. The Embassy Suites Downtown Amarillo will serve as the primary host hotel and is located right across the street from the Amarillo Civic Center. Bus transportation will be provided to YES events held outside of the Amarillo Civic Center. Based on the location of the Embassy Suites Downtown Amarillo, transportation will not be provided from the Embassy to the Amarillo Civic Center. The transportation will depart from either the Amarillo Civic Center or Embassy Suites.
  2. Plan to meet your new friends at the Mix ’n’ Mingle on Tuesday evening at the Civic Center Grand Plaza.
  3. Bring pencils and paper, as there will be interactive leadership workshops and several opportunities to learn new things – especially from our keynote speakers, Jess Ekstrom, representing Headbands of Hope; and Dr. Russell Lowery-Hart from Amarillo College.
  4. Don’t forget your dancing shoes for the dance Wednesday night!
  5. Make a difference as we partner with the High Plains Food Bank to help alleviate hunger in the Texas Panhandle. Be sure to bring closed-toe shoes to volunteer in the warehouse and garden.
  6. Pack appropriate clothing for all events, including something dressy for the awards dinner on Thursday night.
  7. Come ready to learn more about what happens at the AQHA International Headquarters and explore careers in the agriculture industry from professionals and businesses during a career expo at the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum.
  8. Get excited to watch the 2019-20 AQHYA officer and director candidates campaign, and to elect your new leadership team.
  9. And, last but not least, bring a great attitude and be ready for a fun-filled few days!

This event will be the highlight of your year. What better way to spend time with your fellow AQHYA members?
