Lawless Wallace was successful at his first career start at Remington Park, as the son of champion Tres Seis on Sunday posted the fastest qualifying time to the March 25, $234,860 Oklahoma Derby (G3).

Racing in the first of six 350-yard trials and aided by a reported 13-mph tail wind, Lawless Wallace defeated fourth-fastest qualifier Tres Crystals by a neck in :17.557. Jimmy Brooks rode the Colorado-bred colt for owners Ron, Melany and Brad Shalz of Colby, Kansas, and trainer Eddie Willis.

Lawless Wallace was also making his sophomore season debut. The colt was bred by Papas Place LLC, and he is out of Elicity, a stakes-winning 9-year-old daughter of 2011 world champion Apollitical Jess.

Lawless Wallace ended his juvenile campaign with a neck victory in the December 11, $50,000 Los Alamitos Two-Million Juvenile Invitational Stakes. All told, he has won five of seven races -- including three of three at the 350 trip -- and he has banked $52,150.

Other prominent Oklahoma Derby finalists include Tres Crystals, a gelded son of Tres Seis trained by Dee Keener for owner Elizabeth Logan. Tres Crystals was making his 3-year-old season debut off of a 2-year-old season during which he won the Grade 2 Oklahoma Futurity and Grade 1 Heritage Place Futurity.
