Carolyn and Ralph Fales’ homebred Say Somthing is showing that she’s learned to be a racehorse.
After being winless in her first four starts at Turf Paradise and Los Alamitos, Say Somthing has won two of her latest three starts, including a third-place finish in the $77,800 Wild West Futurity at Los Alamitos.
After the Wild West Futurity Say Somthing returned to Turf Paradise to set the top qualifying time while winning her trial to the $80,000-est. Arizona QRA Futurity. She got an excellent start from her outside post position and had plenty of racing room. She raced with the leaders and then pulled out to a one-half length win as the 13-10 favorite. She was timed in :17.593 for the 350 yards in the third of three trials.
Say Somthing gained respect with her third-place finish in the Wild West Futurity, a race for 2-year-olds who have started in selected states outside of California. She was one of three horses the Fales qualified for the Wild West Futurity and they were all trained by their son Matt.
The Wild West Futurity was won by 1-9 favorite Heartlande while Say Somthing ran a noteworthy race to finish third.
Tell Cartel, the sire of Say Somthing, is a son of Favorite Cartel who was named champion 3-year-old and champion 3-year-old colt. He won the Los Alamitos Super Derby (G1), Los Alamitos Winter Derby (G1) and the El Primero Del Ano Derby (G3) during his racing career, as well as running second in the Champion of Champions (G1) as the favorite behind Apollitical Pence.
Say Somthing is from a family that has provided stakes horses from Canada to California.
The first dam of Say Somthing, Shiftin, won 12 races and competed in the Arizona QRA Futurity (G3), Alex Picov Memorial Championship (twice), Can Am Nations Cup Stakes and the Maple Leaf Derby.
Shiftin, sired by Gol, is the dam of Wild West Futurity winner Ms Patty Cake, who was also second in the Desert Classic Futurity.
Say Somthing’s second dam Merri Roc was second in the Arizona QRA Futurity (RG3) and qualified for the Santa Cruz County Futurity (G3).
Merric Roc, sired by Rocky Jones, is the dam of Arizona QRA Futurity winner Motorin, Desert Classic Futurity and Turf Paradise Juvenile Challenge winner Madd Dog along with Maple Leaf Futurity third-place finisher Beer Man.
Say Somthing’s third dam Dee Gees was unraced, but the Merridoc daughter produced Arizona QRA Futurity winner Dee Gee Jones, Phoenix Futurity (G3) runner-up Rockys Treat and Arizona Stallion Owners Association Futurity third-place finisher Roses N Rocks.
Say Somthing has the opportunity to gain her first stakes win in the Arizona QRA Futurity. A strong result would indicate that she could have an excellent 3-year-old campaign.
