The National Reined Cow Horse Association Snaffle Bit Futurity is a destination event for people around the world every October, as young cow horses gather in Fort Worth, Texas, to demonstrate their innate ability and early training.

The talent bred into the horses produced by AQHA Ranching Heritage Breeders serves them well in this triathalon of events. AQHA Ranching Heritage Breeders are working cattle ranches producing quality horses needed for ranch work.

The AQHA Ranching Heritage program is designed to showcase the qualities of a working ranch horse by recognizing the top Ranching Heritage-bred horses competing at major events. The awards are given to the top-placing Ranching Heritage-bred horse in each division, with the tie-breaker going to the horse that defeats the most horses. While the horse must be bred by an AQHA Ranching Heritage Breeder, anyone can show these horses, which are eligible for special events such as AQHA Ranching Heritage Challenges.

At the Snaffle Bit Futurity, a prize was awarded to the highest-placed horse in the preliminaries of each division. The winners include open winner Wooodya; non-pro limited winner DMR Natural Who; and non-pro CR Tuff Guns N Roses.

The owners of each horse earned $250 and a specially designed ranch horse trophy, and each of the horses’ breeders received a $250 check.

Wooodya is a 2016 sorrel mare by Woody Be Tuff and out of the Peptoboonsmal mare CR Dees Boon Meow. Bred by Center Ranch of Centerville, Texas, she is owned by Eric Frietas of Santa Maria, California, and was ridden by Justin Wright. The mare finished fifth in the prelims, and 14th in the finals. Her full sister, CR Dees Be Tuff, was 13th in the finals.

DMR Natural Who was bred by Diamond M Ranch and Cattle Co. of Era, Texas, and is owned and ridden by Jasper Patrick of Steamboat Springs, Colorado. He is by Whodini and out of the Natural Enterprise mare Natural Budha.

CR Tuff Guns N Roses is also a Center Ranch-bred horse. The gelding is by Woody Be Tuff and out of the Dual Rey mare Gypsy Rose Rey. He was owned and ridden by Abbie Phillips of Scottsdale, Arizona.
