Robin Merrill has devoted her life to the American Quarter Horse. Her early enthusiasm for competition took her to the inaugural Youth World Show in 1972, where she rode Doc Bar Linda to the bridle path hack (hunt seat) championship.

Continuing to show in AQHA competition, Robin went to Florida after high school to work for Carol Harris at Bo-Bett Farms, and then moved to Texas to manage Harmony Farms, a race and show horse breeding operation she owned with her father. In 1998, Robin scored the world title in amateur cutting at the AQHA World Championship Show.

Robin’s path has also led her far afield of the arena. An AQHA honorary vice president, Robin for decades has put just as much time and effort into doing the often thankless work out of the saddle that affords the opportunities for others to shine.

Robin was appointed to the AQHA Foundation Committee in 1994, served as chairwoman in 2001-2004 and has been an appointed member of the Foundation Board of Trustees since 2019. Her work with the Foundation has ensured funding for equine research, equine-assisted therapies and activities, college scholarships for AQHYA members and continued operations of the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum.

Married in 1975, Robin and her husband, AQHA Past President Frank Merrill, raised their children McKenzie, Megan and Tyler on Quarter Horses, and now their grandchildren are being raised on Quarter Horses.

From the 1970s through the mid-2000s, the couple owned and managed Windward Stud at Purcell, Oklahoma, and in 2018 completed 50 years as cumulative breeders.

“Robin Merrill’s lifelong involvement in the American Quarter Horse industry, the American Quarter Horse Association and the American Quarter Horse Foundation exemplifies the intent of why the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame was created,” affirms retired AQHA Executive Vice President Bill Brewer. “I cannot name another person that I feel has given more time, energy, vision and support to AQHA, the American Quarter Horse Foundation and American Quarter Horse industry than Robin Merrill.”

Along with American Quarter Horse Hall of Famers Carol Rose and Georga Sutton, and fellow 2025 inductee Nancy Cahill, Robin was in the inaugural class of AQHA Wrangler Women of Influence in 2023. In 2024, Robin was presented with the American Quarter Horse Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award.
