Chasing AJ, a gelded son of world champion Apollitical Jess owned by Steve Holt, recorded the fastest winning time from 19 300-yard training races contested at Ruidoso Downs Racetrack on Wednesday.

Ridden by Rodrigo Vallejo for trainer Heath Taylor, Chasing AJ won his schooling race in :15.979. A total of 114 Quarter Horses were entered in Wednesday's races.

Chasing AJ was bred in Oklahoma by Don Griffin Jr., and he was purchased for $95,000 at last year's Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale. The gray gelding is out of Eye On This Candy, a winning daughter of the Dash For Cash stallion Mr Eye Opener who ran third in the 2004 Valley Junction Futurity (G3) at Prairie Meadows. Chasing AJ is a half brother to stakes winner and 2011 Texas Classic Derby (G1) third-place finisher I See Candy Paint.

Chasing AJ's second dam, the Leaving Memories mare Send Me The Candy, won the 1996 Remington Park Futurity (G1).

Ruidoso Downs' 2022 race meet opens Friday, May 27. Visit the track's website for more information.
