The AQHA Professional Horseman and Director Emeritus died November 18.

AQHA has been notified of the November 18, 2022, death of AQHA Professional Horseman and Director Emeritus Sam Rose, 68, of Valley View, Texas. 

Rose, who was the National Cutting Horse Association director of judges, trained and shown multiple open Honor Roll and AQHA world champions, and coached several youth and amateurs to multiple world championships. An AQHA judge, he  also carried judging cards with NCHA and the National Reined Cow Horse Association. Rose has chaired the judges committees for both AQHA and NRCHA, and has shown at and judged major events such as AQHA world shows, NCHA cuttings and the NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity, among others.

Rose has been on the AQHA Animal Welfare Commission since its inception, and has served on the AQHA Hall of Fame Committee and AQHA Show Council.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Quarter Horse Foundation designated for the Youth Activities Scholarship.  This scholarship is awarded to eligible outstanding AQHYA members competing at the AQHYA World Championship Show.
