The photo finish camera couldn't separate Hes Limitless and Political Attraction at the wire, as the two rivals finished in a dead heat for the win in Saturday's 400-yard, $108,000 Sooner State Stakes (RG1) for Oklahoma-breds at Remington Park.
Hes Limitless and Political Attraction both reached the finish line in :19.801. James Flores rode Political Attraction, the 4-5 favorite in the field of eight, for owners Rogelio Marquez Jr. and Kathy Robinson and trainer R.L. "Rick" Robinson, and Agustin Silva rode Hes Limitless for owner Jack Smith Farms of Comber, Ontario, Canada, and trainer John Stinebaugh.
Hes Limitless made his season debut with a third-place finish, three-quarters of a length behind winner Political Attraction, in the 350-yard Eastex Stakes (G2) on March 23.
“The difference tonight was getting a race underneath him,” trainer John Stinebaugh said of the improvement by Hes Limitless. “This is by far the best he’s ever run at Remington. He’s been so-so and even as a 2-year-old he was so-so. He’s a dead solid horse. He just always does his best every time he comes over.”
Political Attraction dead heated for the win despite a less-than-perfect start.
“He broke a little flat-footed tonight,” said Flores of Political Attraction. “I stayed out of his way until he got comfortable. I thought we got (Hes Limitless) at the wire, but evidently we got to the finish at the same time.”
Political Attraction was bred in Oklahoma by Ron Lyles. The 4-year-old Apollitical Jess gelding has won eight of 16 starts and has banked $446,590.
A homebred 4-year-old Corona Cartel gelding, Hes Limitless has won three of 16 outs and has earned $358,081.
Hooked On A Win finished third and was followed by Admiral Sting, Racanteur, AJs High, VF Adreneline Rush, and Bye Byefreighttrain.
