Legacy Ranch's Mister Appolitical extended his win streak to four with a wire-to-wire, 1 1/2-length victory in Friday's $168,700 Southern California Derby (G2) at Los Alamitos.

Ridden by Jesus Ayala for trainer Terry Knight and sent to post as the 9-10 favorite in a field of 10 sophomores, Mister Appolitical went 400 yards in : 19.722. The homebred Apollitical Jess gelding earned a 94 speed index and the $70,854 winner's share of the purse from his second graded stakes score.

“He was a little nervous in the starting gate," Ayala said. "He didn’t have a particularly great start, but he’s a very consistent horse.

"He’s a fighter, he will give you his all," the rider added. "I saw a couple of horses racing on the inside, but they were not going to catch us. My horse was too fast.”

Mister Appolitical's win streak includes a victory in the October 4, 400-yard PCQHRA Breeders' Derby (G3). All told, the gelding has won eight of 13 starts and has banked $290,580.

“He’s a pretty nice runner,” said Pete Parrella of Legacy Ranch. “The guys at the ranch gave this horse some time. It seems to have helped him.

"After he qualified we got some calls from people wanting to buy him." he added. "I called Terry and I told him ‘I don’t know how you feel about this, but I’d really like to run this horse as a 4-year-old next year.’ Let’s see if we can run in a few races and try to get him qualified to the Champion of Champions. If the horse comes back well, give him some time and look at some races for next year."

Tac Me Up finished second and was followed by Dexxter, Chocolatito, Symbol Of Faith, Corona By Corona, Jess Flashee, Jess Send It, Galloping Goddess, and Red Hawk Cartel.
