Stuck In Probate, a son of the Favorite Trick (TB) stallion Favorite Cartel racing for Vic3tory LLC, is the fastest qualifier to the December 18, $155,300 Southern California Derby (G2).

Competing in the first of four 400-yard trials at Los Alamitos on Sunday, Stuck In Probate defeated third-fastest qualifier Insider Information by 1 1/4 lengths in :19.728. Ruben Lozano rode the California-bred gelding for trainer Valentin Zamudio.

Stuck In Probate was bred by Dr. Steve Burns of Menifee, California, and he was coming off of a third-place finish in the November 5, $25,000 Town Policy Stakes at Los Alamitos. The gelding is out of Fyrefly Jo, a 7-year-old Walk Thru Fire mare who won the 2017 Way Maker Handicap at Los Alamitos. His second dam, the Genuine Strawfly mare Jenuine Joy, was a multiple graded stakes winner in New Mexico from 2010-11.

Stuck in Probate was winning for the third time in 15 starts and increasing his bankroll to $27,005, of which $16,655 has been pocketed from nine races this year.

Second-fastest qualifier Boondarbian won the third heat by a neck in :19.888. Juan Pablo Leon rode the homebred son of the FDD Dynasty stallion Jr Dynasty Mountain for owners Jerald and Lacie Davenport and trainer John Cooper.

"It's pretty exciting," Lacie Davenport said of Boondarbian's trial. "We knew he'd show up. I'm a little bit surprised that he did as well as he did, but we knew he had it in him."

Boondarbian was bred in Utah. Raced in three states, including Wyoming and Utah, the multiple stakes placed bay gelding has won three of 18 outs and ha earned $43,928.
