Sunland Park, located near El Paso in Sunland Park, New Mexico, is expected to be sold to a Pennsylvania-based company called Gaming and Leisure Properties, Inc., with the deal to be closed October 15.
Gaming and Leisure Properties, Inc. announced its intention to acquire the real estate assets of Sunland Park Racetrack & Casino for $183.75 million, with Strategic Gaming Management, LLC, set to manage Sunland's operations.
Opened in 1960, Sunland Park sits on approximately 157 acres and offers both Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred racing, as well as gaming. The New Mexico Racing Commission and New Mexico Gaming Control Board approved the sale at a special meeting on September 30.
The track was owned and operated for about 25 years by the family of Stan Fulton, who passed away in 2018.
