Flying Cowboy 123 sets fastest qualifying time.

Flying Cowboy 123, a sorrel son of Apollitical Jess owned by Paragon Farms LLC and last year's champion 2-year-old colt, on Friday set the fastest qualifying time to the November 9, $344,572 Texas Classic Derby (G1) at Lone Star Park.

Ridden by Ricky Ramirez for trainer James Gonzales II, Flying Cowboy 123 won the first of five 440-yard trials by one length in :21.578. The Michigan-bred colt scored his seventh win in 12 starts and increased his earnings to $892,476.

Flying Cowboy 123 was bred by Carolyn C. Bay, and he was coming off of a third-place finish in the September 1, 440-yard All American Derby (G1) at Ruidoso Downs.

Second-fastest qualifier FM Cartel Rock won the second heat by three-quarters of a length in :21.587. Raul Ramirez Jr. rode the One Sweet Jess colt for owner J. Fabian Hernandez and trainer Robi Meche.
