Almada Racing's Perrys Secret, the eighth-fastest qualifier, outran his 13-1 odds to win Sunday's $323,571 West Texas Futurity (G2) at Sunland Park.

Ridden by Manuel Gutierrez and aided by a reported 9-mph tail wind, Perrys Secret covered 300 yards in :14.921, and his winning margin was a head from 2-1 favorite and second-fastest qualifier Return Of Brown Eyes. Josue Ponce prepped the gray son of Hez Our Secret, who was scoring his second victory in two outs.

Perrys Secret was bred in Texas by Jackie Sessions. The colt is out of Sister Jess, a homebred 11-year-old daughter of champion Mr Jess Perry. His second dam, the homebred Royal Quick Dash mare Royal Baby Sister, won two graded stakes from 2001-03, including the 2002 AQHA New Mexico Derby Challenge (G3) at Ruidoso Downs.

The $152,078 winner's share of the West Texas Futurity purse boosted Perrys Secret's earnings to $157,418.

KJ Mucho Macho Man finished third, 1 1/4 lengths behind Perrys Secret. Tempt The Lady, Apollitical J Wild, Wagon Tales Promies, Mister Mucho Gusto, Tapestri, fastest qualifier One Corona Eagle, and La Dies Coronas completed the order of finish.
