Zan Parr Jack

Like father, like son. Zan Parr Jack is joining his sire in the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame.

Bred by Jerald A. Riemann of Dighton, Kansas, the sorrel son of Zan Parr Barr was foaled April 1, 1979, out of Two Eyed Jack mare Miss Goldie Jack, and was a full brother to Zan Gold Jack.

Zan Parr Jack was purchased as a 2-year-old by Hall of Famer Carol Rose, who owned his sire. Carol sent “Jack” to Billy Allen, Hall of Fame horseman who trained and showed his sire. Billy showed Zan Parr Jack to the 1983 AQHA junior working cow horse world championship, a top-10 placing in junior reining, high-point and reserve high-point awards in team roping, and a Superior in heading.

In 1984, Ed Gaylord purchased Zan Parr Jack and brought him to Lazy E Ranch in Guthrie, Oklahoma where John Miller and J. D. Yates further trained and showed him.

“The horse was a winner,” says J.D., who rode Jack to the AQHA senior heeling world title in 1984 and 1985. “…When you’d go in the arena, if you did your job as a rider, he’d do his and give you 100 percent.”

The horse made a winner of his owner, too. In 1987, Ed rode Jack to the AQHA world championship in amateur heeling.

Zan Parr Jack earned multiple high-point awards, top-10 finishes at the AQHA World Show, Superiors in heading and heeling, open and amateur ROM, and 628 points.

“Jack was a powerfully made horse, an extremely correct horse, had a tremendous foot and cannon bone,” says Butch Wise, general manager of Lazy E Ranch and AQHA past president. “He was very typical of his sire line.... He fit that set of genetics, but he also had that Howard Pitzer/Two Eyed Jack kind of look, too. He was a very good combination of those two very popular lines at the time.”

Zan Parr Jack sired 347 American Quarter Horse foals, with 117 of them earning more than 19,500 points together, including 131 ROM. In AQHA competition, his offspring won 10 world championships, 11 reserve world championships, 27 year-end all-around wins, 6 year-end all-around high-point wins, and 3 reserve all-around high-point wins. His offspring have earned more than $580,000.

Two of his most notable offspring were Bar J Jackie and Jack E Eleven who both produced AQHA Superhorses.

Due to infirmities at 35, Zan Parr Jack was euthanized December 3, 2014. The stallion was inducted into the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame in 2020.
