The 2015 NCEA Championship had a dynamic start on Wednesday evening with the opening ceremonies. Athletes from the top 12 schools entered the stadium under a spotlight to a symphony of cheering fans and spectators. The All-American Athletic and Academic award winners were announced and recognized before the conclusion of the ceremony and the beginning of the competition.

In NCEA competition, great effort is taken to level the playing field. Riders from opposing schools face off in a head-to-head format. Two riders, one from each school, ride the same horse. Scores are given based on how the rider handles the particular horse. The highest score on each horse wins a point for the respective team.

The student athletes compete in four different events – equitation on the flat, equitation over fences, horsemanship and reining.

Thursday morning the barns were bustling with activity, as riders prepared horses for competition. The day showcased the depth of talent from the universities with outstanding scores and exciting competition.

Southern Methodist University was defeated by Kansas State University with a final score of 10-5.  Kansas State will compete against No. 1 seed Georgia on Friday.

Auburn and the University of Tennessee-Martin faced each other as the No. 5 and 12 seeds, respectively. Auburn advances to face off against No. 4 seed Texas A&M after winning 13-3 over UTM.

The No. 6 seed, Fresno State, narrowly beat out No. 11 seed New Mexico State with a score of 8-7. Fresno State will move ahead to compete against South Carolina. Oklahoma State won 13-3 against Texas Christian University. OSU will advance to compete against No. 2 seed Baylor in the quarterfinals.
