Black Gold on Hold

Officials deciding whether to rerun race after gate problem at Fair Meadows.

July 1, 2012

Due to a gate malfunction, the $100,000 Black Gold 300 Futurity (R) contested on Saturday night at Fair Meadows has been put on hold.

After the starter punched the button, the gates did not open, and then several gates randomly opened. After a meeting with the race connections and stewards about possible options, the Oklahoma Quarter Horse Racing Association, which sponsors the race, will make a decision on the whether to rerun the race later in the meet or to distribute the purse evenly among the seven horses that did not scratch prior to the "no race" situation.

According to Debbie Schauf, executive director of OQHRA, a decision is expected by Wednesday.
