The Quarter Horse Racing Association of Indiana (QHRAI) is proud to announce their first ever Turkey Give-A-Way on Monday, November 19, in the Salvation Army Parking Lot at 1615 Meridian Street, in Anderson, Indiana. The giveaway starts at 10:30 a.m.

Quarter Horses, the fastest horses in the world, have been racing at Hoosier Park since the track opened in Anderson in 1994.

Tom Mosley, QHRAI’s Director of Industry Relations, commented “This isn’t a gimmick, there’s no catch. We are going to have a horse trailer full of turkeys and we are going to give them away Monday at 10:30.  Anderson and the surrounding communities have accepted us with open arms and the trainers, jockeys and other horsemen that we represent want to show our appreciation by helping out families that could use a little good cheer during the Thanksgiving Holiday.

“The vast majority of our horsemen are Hoosiers and the Quarter Horse Racing Community is a tight knit group," he added. "It’s very fulfilling to us to include Anderson into our community as they have done for us.”

Horse racing since the creation of the racinos in both Shelbyville and Anderson has had a dramatic economic impact on the state of Indiana. According to the most recent study, horse racing has a $1 billion dollar impact on the State’s economy. It generates just under 10,000 jobs along with nearly $70 million in state and local tax revenue. There has been a great partnership between legislators, Hoosier Park, Indiana Downs, the horsemen of Indiana and the Indiana Horse Racing Commission that has caused this industry to thrive and have the positive economic impact it is having.

“Again, on behalf of the Quarter Horse Racing Association and the jockeys, trainers, horse owners and breeders that we represent, we want to sincerely thank Anderson and the surrounding communities for being such a good host for the 2012 race season,” Mosley said.

If you, or someone you know could use a little assistance furnishing your Thanksgiving meal this year, stop by the Salvation Army Parking lot on Monday, November 19 at 10:30 a.m. to pick up a free turkey.
