Los Alamitos

Chris Kotulak will call the racing action at Los Alamitos Race Course during the next two weeks of the meet in place of Ed Burgart, who is enjoying a well deserved vacation. A talented television host and racing analyst, Kotulak says race calling was his first love.

"I'd buy a ticket for the grandstand (at Ak-Sar-Ben) and sit there and call the races into a small, beat-up tape recorder," he said, "and then I'd send what I considered my best calls to tracks in the area."

In his career, Kotulak has also called the races at Louisiana Downs, home of Thoroughbred racing's Super Derby. He also called races at Hollywood Park and Delta Downs and has filled in for Burgart at Los Alamitos on several occasions. A former host of "The Quarters" on TVG, Kotulak was the voice at the microphone when 2002 co-World Champion Whosleavingwho won the 2005 Los Alamitos Winter Championship (G1). Kotulak famously called the race by reminding listeners to "Respect your elders…" as the 7-year-old crossed the wire victoriously.

Kotulak served as TVG's analyst for the 2009 Japan Cup and Japan Cup Dirt while visiting tracks in Tokyo and Osaka. He is currently an on-air host and handicapper during the Remington Park simulcast presentation.

Chris Wade will provide the morning line odds in Ed Burgart's absence, while Les Onaka will write the race comments on the At A Glance pages in the Night Lines program. For more info, please call 714-820-2690.
