In a good faith effort with the Florida QHRA to work toward more Quarter Horse racing and a full race meet at Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company in the future, OBS has released the conditions for a Quarter Horse race to be run on December 11th.

They are available at the OBS offices and on the website at www.obssales.com.  This purpose of this race is only to activate the Quarter Horse permit at OBS in Ocala. Any full race meet that involves a card room, casino or other gaming requires a full schedule of live racing and a written signed agreement with the horsemen’s group. Plans for discussions of a full schedule of live racing are in the works. Entries will be taken on December 4th.

One Thoroughbred and one Quarter Horse race is scheduled.

The Quarter Horse race is a $7,500 allowance to be run at 220 yards for 3-year-olds and upward which have never won two races or which have not won a race in 2012. In the event a race does not fill, a substitute race is listed for each breed with starter allowance conditions. OBS has contacted AQHA and plans to run the race under conditions that will allow the race to be recognized and registered with AQHA.The race had to be set at 220 yards due to current timer constraints at the facility.

FQHRA looks forward to continue working with OBS and FHBPA toward the common goal of creating more racing opportunities and breeding opportunities for horsemen in Florida. Horse racing and breeding is a five billion dollar industry in Florida and it is growing daily.
