Pappasito Gets First Stakes Winner

Grade 3 winner and first crop sire Pappasito sired his first stakes winner Saturday night when Madresita won the $34,250 Laico Bird Stakes for Okahoma-Bred two-year-old fillies at Remington Park.

Under jockey Jesus Salazar, Madresita cruised to a one length win, picking up $19,992. She completed the 300 yards into a 25 mph headwind in :15.867 seconds. Eddie Willis trains the Pappasito filly for Rodney Verret. MacKie Racing, LLC bred Madresita from the champion daughter of Mr Eye Opener, Mongoose Jet Eye. She was also a finalist in the $378,500 Oklahoma Futurity(G2) at Remington Park last month.

A son of leading sire Corona Cartel, Pappasito is currently the #4 leading first crop sire of money earners in 2012. From only seven foals to race he has sired two winners, 1 stakes winner. Among his starters are the above mentioned stakes winner Madresita (2 wins in 3 starts at 2, $32,892) and Pajarita Sita (1 win, $6,000), fastest qualifier to the Grade 1 $217,115 West Texas Futurity at Sunland Park (finals will run Sunday, April 15).

Bred and raced by MacKie Racing, LLC, Pappasito won three races at 2 including the New Mexico Juvenile Challenge(G3) at Ruidoso Downs. The son of Corona Cartel earned just under $40,000 in five career starts.
