Severe weather played against Remington Park racing for the second consecutive program this weekend, forcing the cancellation of the second-half of the Sunday card. Due to a line of severe storms, threatening to drop tornadoes, Remington Park management and the Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission stewards called off the final five races Sunday.

The last race on the Saturday night program was canceled when a heavy thunderstorm hit Remington Park just prior to 10 p.m. The weather has now forced a cancellation of six races in the past two days.

There were two Pick 3 wagers open when the cancellation was called on Sunday. The Pick 3 that would have ended with race six was 1-7-All, paying $8.80 for a $2 wager. The Pick 3 that would have ended with race seven was 7-All-All, paying $8.40 for a $2 wager.

Only seven race dates remain in the 2013 Remington Park American Quarter Horse & Mixed-Breed Season. Racing resumes with a holiday weekend card that runs Friday thru Memorial Day Monday, May 24-27. The first race on Friday and Saturday is at 6 p.m. Racing will begin on Sunday and Memorial Day at 1:30 p.m.

Sunday racing is headlined by the second-annual Oklahoma Speedfest, a series of stakes races for Oklahoma-breds worth purses of $200,000. Speedfest races include: the Easy Date Handicap for older fillies and mares at 350 yards; the Boyd Morris Memorial Handicap for 3-year-olds and older at 400 yards; the FL Lady Bug Stakes for 2-year-olds at 330 yards and the Restricted Grade 3, Jack Brooks Stakes for 3-year-olds at 350 yards. All Speedfest races carry a purse of $50,000.

Remington Park’s season continues thru Sunday, June 2.
