Blaze To Victory Upsets Merial Sandy Downs Challenge

Utah-bred mare earns berth in Grade 1 race at Los Alamitos.

E. Escobedo and S. Christensen's Blaze To Victory pulled off a 24-1 upset in Sunday’s $25,560 Merial Sandy Downs Distaff Challenge in Idaho.

The Maknmoves 4-year-old mare went wire to wire, under jockey Porfirio Cano, over the 400 yard course to defeat RTM Say Your Prayers by a half-length. She stopped the timer in :19.735, a 97 speed index.

The $11,758 winner's purse nearly doubled her career earnings to total to $24,412, and she secured herself a spot in the $125,000 Merial Distaff Challenge Championship (G1) on November 9 at Los Alamitos Race Course. Samuel Christensen saddled the Utah-bred miss out of the Chicks Beduino mare Sinfully. Brian Farnell Estate is the breeder.

RTM Say Your Prayers earned $5,112 for her second-place effort. Mark Hanson conditions the Chickie Cherry Cola filly for Susan Hanson. Ridden by Dirk Crane, the 6-year-old Idaho-bred is from the Dashin Is Easy mare Shirleys Secret.

Ms Eaves, a stakes winning 3-year-old daughter of leading sire Tres Seis, finished 2 ½ lengths back in the show position to earn $2,556. The payday pushed her earnings to over $40,000. Gerardo Prado owns the bay miss who is trained by Pablo Rabasa Jr. Bred in Texas by Christine Hudson, Ms Eaves is out of Little Ms Tuff Stuff, by Chicks Beduino.

The Streakin Clean, A Regal Blue Sky, Righteous Look, Lanes Legend, My Fair Dashair, Kappucino Angel and Getintowin completed the field.
