Ramon Vejar’s homebred Caracortada prevailed by a head in Sunday’s $72,052 AQRA-Turf Paradise Futurity while hitting the board for the sixth time in as many starts and recording his first stakes victory. The Arizona-bred colt by Azoom dashed 400 yards in :19.921 with Carlos Marquez riding for trainer Raymond Felix.

Caracortada finished second in the AQRA President’s Spring Futurity at Turf Paradise in April and then moved on to Los Alamitos, where he broke his maiden and finished second against allowance foes before returning to Arizona to win his AQRA-Turf Paradise Futurity trial. His record now stands at 6-3-3-0 with earnings of $52,146.

Orlando Guerrero’s Jo Jo Hot Legs finished second. No Secret Bank crossed the wire third but was disqualified and placed seventh for interference. That moved up Eyesa Famous Eagle and Tac A Hike to third in a dead heat.
