Owner/breeder Rita Danley and her husband, trainer Fred Danley, are well set for the $49,647 New Mexico State Fair Breeders’ Derby (RG3) with the top-two qualifiers on Sunday afternoon at The Downs at Albuquerque.

Their Ofashionsoutherngirl (Southern Corona-Cowgirl Cadilac by Celadon) posted the top time of :19.613 while Easily A Gent (Jacksboro-Easily Authorized by Dooley Authorized) raced to the second-fastest time of :19.716.

Ofashionsoutherngirl qualified for last year’s Senorita Futurity (RG3), but did not break her maiden until two starts ago when she won her ninth start by a half length as the 2-1 favorite. The filly came back in her September 8 Breeders’ Derby trial to score by a length, with the quickest time from two trials.

Easily A Gent took the other trial by three-quarters of a length for his third career win and his first victory from five 2013 outs. Last year, the gelding was second in the By By JJ Overnight Handicap at Ruidoso Downs and qualified for the New Mexico State Fair Senor Futurity (RG3).

David and Ross Hinkins’ Rex Hill (Jess James Jr-Tangled Vines by Dash Ta Fame) was second to Easily A Gent as the 6-5 favorite and has proven stakes class. The Emilio Cadena III-trained colt won the New Mexico Spring Fling Futurity (R) and the New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity (RG3) last year. He returned this season to take fourth-place finishes in the February 17 New Mexico Horse Breeders’ Association Stakes (RG2) and the May 19 New Mexico Breeders’ Stakes (RG2).
