Nahem Rosella Prieto’s Reagal Eagle and Salome Gallegos’ Rocked Up, who set the fastest-qualifying times on each of the two days of Rainbow Futurity trials, meet in the first Rainbow Futurity (G1) to carry a $1 million purse on Sunday afternoon at Ruidoso Downs.

Two days of Rainbow Futurity trials were held for the first time this year. The five-fastest qualifiers from the first day of trials on July 4 meet the horses with the five-fastest qualifying times on July 5 in the 400-yard Rainbow Futurity. The two-day trial format will continue for the All American Futurity trials

Reagal Eagle (One Famous Eagle-Corona Deluxe by Corona Cartel) won his maiden in his fourth-career start with an impressive 1¼-length trial win. His time of :19.242 for 400 yards topped the first day of qualifying. Earlier this year, he raced in the West Texas Juvenile (R).

Lana Merrick’s Belle Helene (Valiant Hero-Thewayouwantmetoo by Mr Eye Opener) has stepped up for trainer Blane Wood, who has three Rainbow Derby finalists, with two wins from two starts. She won her Ruidoso Futurity (G1) trial by 1 length and then dominated her Rainbow Futurity trial by 2 lengths, with a :19.403 time, the second-fastest mark on the second day of trials.

Wood will also saddle Bill Price’s BP Its My Policy (First Down Dash-CC Policy by Corona Cartel) and Ms First Prize Rose (Corona Cartel-First Carolina by Mr Jess Perry) in the Rainbow Futurity.

Rocked Up (Shazoom-Jess Ought To Go Now by Mr Jess Perry) makes his third start in the Rainbow Futurity and has improved in each of his two starts. After finishing a lackluster third in his Ruidoso Futurity trial, the colt pulled away from his Rainbow Futurity trial competitors to win by 1 length in :19.416, the top mark on the second day of trials.

Burnett Ranches Ltd. and Johnny Trotter’s Ms First Prize Rose is finding her top form at a lucrative time of the year for trainer Wood. After a third-place finish in a Sam Houston Race Park maiden race, she came to Ruidoso Downs and won her Ruidoso Futurity trial by a neck after a troubled start. She then scored by 1 1/2 lengths in her Rainbow Futurity trial. They filly’s time of :19.417 was the second-fastest time during the second day of trials.
