Fearles Fred Repeats at Fort Erie

Fearles Fred wins Bank of America Fort Erie Championship Challenge.

Fearles Fred and Leanintoit each earned a spot in their respective division Challenge Championships on October 27 at Prairie Meadows by posting impressive wins at Fort Erie on July 2.

Under jockey Helen Vanek, Fearles Fred scored a 2 ¼ length victory in the $102,150 Bank of America Fort Erie Challenge Championship, his second consecutive win in the race. The Fredricksburg gelding completed the 440 yards in :21.640 seconds, picking up the $46,214 winner’s purse for owner/breeder Walter Harrison.

Carol Rettele saddled the 5-year-old gelding to his 14th win in 27 starts, moving his earnings mark to $221,139. The win garnered him a spot in the $350,000 Bank of America Challenge Championship (G1) on October 27.

Tony and Lloyd Yother’s A Plain Brown Rapper finished second, earning $20,093. Greg Watson trains the 4-year-old A Regal Choice gelding. John McInerney was aboard.

Renee Wilson saddled Ivy Lane Racing’s Call Me Fisher who finished a half length back in the show position. Daniel Rose was up, earning $10,046. The 5-year-old gelding is by Fishers Dash.

Completing the field were Struttin High, Jesswatchme, One Kool Wave, Ethics Aside, Make Out Artist, Kook Hand Dutch, Carbello and First Totellya. Mega Fames was scratched.

Donald Ito and Richard Wincikaby’s Leanintoit was equally impressive on July 2nd when she romped to a 2-length win under jockey Brian Bell in the $43,639 Merial Fort Erie Distaff Challenge. 

Don Reid trains the 3-year-old Tres Seis filly from the Heza Fast Man mare First Lady Amber. Bred in Texas by Marcus Smith, she has earned $172,744 with nine wins in 10 lifetimes starts.

Christine Tavares’ Go Loca picked up $8,728 for finishing second. Joe Tavares conditions with Helen Vanek riding. Jerry Windham bred Go Loca in Texas from the Mr Eye Opener mare Ojo Loca.

Ivy Lane Racing’s BLR Nanny Bee finished 1 ¼ lengths back to earn $4,364. Randy Wilson trains the Latest Version 4-year-old with Daniel Rose up.

Completing the field were Aquafina, Special Ela, Special Awards, Heated Up, Katies Award and Casies Carver.
